Southern Bahia is witnessing some truly fascinating developments. This region is the setting for two of Aniyami’s most significant sustainability and educational partnerships that we are excited to share with you:
Alliance with ASMOBAN (Association of Residents of Bairro Novo)
We have recently signed an agreement with this community association in Serra Grande, Bahia, in order to build a mutual collaboration that aims to achieve common goals between our company and the socio-environmental organization. Aniyami Brazil’s mission as a social enterprise aligns with the mission of ASMOBAN. ANIYAMI - THE BRAZIL TRAVEL EXPERIENCE aims to "promote sustainable community economic development and environmental conservation through adventure travel experiences across Brazil." Adria Lacorte, our CEO, has worked closely with them, thoroughly understanding their work and efforts, to finally arrive at this official agreement.
How are we doing it?
1) Traveler Reception Partnership:
Aniyami Brazil will bring travelers interested in local cultural experiences to ASMOBAN. Together, we will create and implement ethnographic and ecotourism experiences for these travelers, leveraging ASMOBAN's social and environmental expertise.
2) Human Capital and Knowledge:
Aniyami Brazil will provide volunteer human capital to ASMOBAN, contributing paid work hours for agreed-upon functions. This collaboration will combine our expertise in sustainable tourism with ASMOBAN's knowledge to achieve shared goals.
3) Conservation-Derived Funds:
Both organizations will plan and execute annual strategies for using conservation-derived funds. These funds will be raised through Aniyami Brazil's CO2 offset initiatives and from our partners and network, supporting the joint conservation efforts.
As for the third point, we are celebrating that Aniyami’s CO2 emissions for 2023 were completely offset to support the construction of their headquarters. And regarding the first point, we have been developing some deep and engaging community-based experiences for travelers over the past few years. One such initiative is closely tied to the next alliance we’d like to share.
University Educational Trips
This year marks the fourth year we have had the pleasure of hosting a group of university students in Serra Grande. These students embark on a three-week field research course to study and understand the changes occurring in the region. They apply anthropological research techniques while working with local leaders in five key areas: agroecology, race and gender, health, education, and migration and tourism.
ASMOBAN is one of our principal partners in this educational trip, contributing to the research project with their knowledgeable experts in various topics. They open their homes to share their history, culture, life, and challenges, essentially hosting this immersive experience.
“With the arrival of this group, we are able to benefit various communities in multiple areas such as income generation, valuing cultural identity, practicing environmental conservation, creating and recovering popular and academic knowledge, promoting connections between communities, and supporting the political resistance struggle of these places," said Lacorte. "Using experiential tourism as a tool, we also manage to transform the people who visit Brazil in a way they will never forget. It is very exciting to see our mission in practice.”

Partnership with ASMOBAN, Quilombo Jatimane, and Assentamento Terravista.
Southern Bahia is not only a tropical and wild paradise but also home to a nurturing community eager to share its knowledge, experience, and vision with the world. We celebrate and are grateful for the opportunity to forge these dream alliances, which have been our reason to be since the inception of Aniyami.
