Green Key Global has awarded The Fairmont Waterfront a “4 Green Key Meetings” rating.
Vancouver, BC – Consistently recognized as an industry leader in environmental stewardship, The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel has once again been lauded in the highest category for sustainability in its meeting and conventions programs.
A 4 Green Key Meetings Rating is awarded to a hotel that has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide ranging policies and practices regarding their meetings and convention facilities and practices. The hotel must have established programs in place that involve management, employees, guests, and the public which have shown substantial and measurable results.
“We are delighted to be one of the first hotels in downtown Vancouver to be granted the prestigious 4 Green Key Meetings rating”, said General Manager Ian Pullan. “Performing as a sustainable business is important in order to minimize our impact on the planet, and we are proud to support the decision of others to be eco-conscious by offering the option of Green Meetings. We have upgraded our facilities to ensure maximum efficiency and sustainability is always front of mind. We feel that being part of the solution is what is best, not just a competitive advantage”.
In 2011, the Fairmont Waterfront furthered their commitment to environmental stewardship by creating the new position of “Energy Manager” at the hotel. The hotel has made this program and sustainability one of their core values. With guidance from the Energy Manager, the hotel has a dedicated Green Team. This team is very proactive in creating formal written policies supporting sustainability and sustainable meetings, helping reduce or eliminate waste streams where possible, reducing the carbon footprint of accommodations and in house meetings and events. The hotel works with its clients to promote attendee and guest health through attention to air quality, noise levels and reducing the use of unnecessary water while still meeting guest’s needs. “Our Green Team is both innovative and persistent, and as we look to the future, we will continue to see a shift towards adopting more rigorous green initiatives”, says Pullan.”Furthermore, our waste reduction goals illustrate our commitment to conservation, exceeding standards in the industry to manage waste generated as a result of our daily operations”.
The recently renovated Fairmont Waterfront Hotel occupies a prime position on the waterfront in downtown Vancouver, its location lends itself towards being an eco-conscious business.
