Some of the participants at the WINTA Network Meeting held on 17 April 2014 in Whistler, BC, Canada.

Over 20 participants from 7 countries gathered together on 17 April 2014, at the WINTA Network meeting in Whistler, BC, Canada.

The WINTA Network meeting provided an opportunity for face to face discussions and information sharing by Indigenous tourism operators, associations, consultants and other supporters.

Mr Ben Sherman, WINTA Leadership Council, facilitated the meeting which enabled the sharing of information on WINTA secretariat activities, WINTA partnership activities with the Adventure Travel Tourism Association, the Pacific Asia Travel Association and the UNWTO.

The Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) and the Aboriginal Tourism Association of BC (AtBC) shared information on their collaborative effort to inform and encourage the Western Australian Government and Tourism Industry to invest in Indigenous tourism. AtBC was invited and hosted in Western Australia by WAITOC to share information on their successful experiences in developing Aboriginal tourism in British Columbia.

Anna Pollock, Conscious Travel, led an open discussion on the forward development of global Indigenous tourism and the identification of potential mission and priority actions for consideration by the WINTA Leadership Council. Feedback from the meeting will be used by WINTA in its forward strategic planning.
