Adventure.Travel’s fourth annual Adventure in Motion short film competition, made possible by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), AFAR, and ExOfficio, has come to a close.

This year, more than 140 films were submitted and reviewed by a diverse committee of industry professionals. They narrowed down this amazing group of submissions to the top eight films that were then promoted during the 2017 consumer-focused campaign on ATTA’s consumer site, Adventure.Travel, in August and September. Both the filmmakers and Adventure in Motion partners promoted the campaign, asking viewers to vote for their favorite films. From that campaign, the top three films of 2017 were voted on live by delegates at the Adventure Travel World Summit in Salta, Argentina, on 18 October 2017.

The winner of the 2017 Adventure in Motion short film competition is:

The Man at the End of the World

Produced by GLP Films

On the shores of Lake Fagnano in Tierra del Fuego, there lives only one man. This film allows viewers to discover the beauty of “the end of the world" through an original pioneer, Don Germán.

"There is a very specific vision and strategy behind our award-winning content marketing campaign work," said Rob Holmes, founder and chief strategist of GLP Films. “We always want to create award-winning storytelling for all of our partners, but it is more than that. We also want our content and storytelling to engage the entire travel industry (trade to consumers), along with driving long-term sustainable tourism development and conservation for emerging and established destinations and travel brands. For us and our global partners, achieving that collaborative success within the entire travel trade industry is what our work is all about."

The runner-up videos were:

The Jordan Trail

Produced by Heliconia, directed and filmed by Anthony Poulin, sound design by Mathieu Robineau, compositing by William Poulin

East Arnhem Land

Produced by Lucy Piper, cinematography and editing by Damien Raggatt, film by Intrepid Travel

ExOfficio, one of the key partners of Adventure in Motion, chose The Northern Lights of Norway as its 2017 partner pick. “We chose the Northern Lights of Norway because of the authenticity of the video,” said Patrice Christensen, director of brand at ExOfficio. “Here at ExOfficio, we are forever seeking the magic of travel. We felt John’s journey to Norway was really an adventure of self-discovery, which wouldn’t have been possible without the magic that only traveling can bring. He was able to use his opportunity to travel to enlighten not only his work, but his overall viewpoint of life.”
