Tucan Travel has been shortlisted by the British Travel Awards for the Small Package Holiday Company of the Year, as well as 7 other categories including Best Special Interest/Adventure Tour Operator. Nominations were received from travel agents and the travelling public.

Tucan Travel is an independently owned adventure travel specialist established in 1987. Offering 450+ group tours, expedition cruises and independent travel options to 72 countries worldwide, the tour operator has a great value, culturally immersive, active adventure for every traveller.

CEO and co-owner Matt Gannan was delighted with the nominations. “Our clients have championed us again this year by nominating us in 8 categories, which is really very humbling. It’s great to know that our travel agents and clients share our passion for our style of adventure travel. This is the best kind of feedback for our very hard working staff and it’s a very encouraging start. I’d like to think that this initial positive response will translate into votes over the next month and I’d like to thank voters in advance for their support.”

Voters can have their say by clicking here. Voting closes 30 September. Tucan Travel won Small Tour Operator of the Year in 2009, and achieved silver in the Best Tour Operator to Central/South America category in 2008’s British Travel Awards.

BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “The British Travel Awards are widely considered to be the “Oscars” of the travel industry. It’s the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward travel companies and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer.”

Companies were nominated by travel industry professionals and a selection of the previous year’s consumer voters, and the shortlisted companies now go to the consumer voting stage. In 2009 over 100,000 votes were cast with the results scrutinized and audited by Deloitte LLP. The winners of the 2010 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 4 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
