Peru once again positions itself as an international benchmark for travel experiences with a positive impact after the recognition granted to the 8 Primates Project, developed by Rainforest Expeditions, in the Regenerative Travel Impact Awards 2025, within the Regenerative Travel Experience category.
The award distinguishes experiences that transform the way people travel, integrating scientific knowledge, a deep connection with the territory, and active traveler participation. In this context, 8 Primates has been recognized for its contribution to the understanding of the Peruvian Amazon through applied research and citizen science, elevating the guest experience beyond traditional forest observation.
8 Primates is a research project focused on the study of the eight primate species present in the Tambopata region, combining field observation, behavioral monitoring, and bioacoustic monitoring. The project is led by Dr. Mark Bowler, a specialist in Wildlife, Ecology, and Conservation Science from the University of Suffolk (United Kingdom), in alliance with SERNANP, AIDER, and with the support of the Moore Foundation, and is developed within the Wired Amazon Program, allowing travelers to directly participate in the generation of real scientific knowledge.
The experience invites guests to understand the Amazon as a living system: how primates communicate, how they respond to their environment, and what ecological conditions are necessary to sustain healthy populations over time. This approach transforms the journey into a deep learning experience, where luxury is redefined by understanding, shared knowledge, and an authentic connection with the forest.
The recognition of the 8 Primates Project highlights the value of experiences developed in Peru that not only seek to minimize their impact but actively contribute to strengthening the knowledge that protects the Amazon ecosystem for future generations, positioning the country as a global reference in transformational experiences.
