Porvenir coto erupciónQuito, ECUADOR - Safety measures enacted due to the Cotopaxi volcano eruption have created confusion for travelers intent on visiting the world’s second highest active volcano.  Cotopaxi National Park has been closed to visitors, but Tierra del Volcan, the region’s largest tour operator, is safe and open for business.

Tierra del Volcan operates Hacienda El Porvenir, one of the largest and oldest hotels in the region.  Hacienda El Porvenir is in a declared ‘safe area’, and is protected by its location, high in surrounding hills.  This unique location not only means the hotel is currently the closest open hotel to the Cotopaxi volcano, but also offers a world-class viewing experience.

IMG-20150814-WA0037Jorge Perez, owner of Tierra del Volcan, says they’re using the disruption as an opportunity to review all of their existing programs.  “We are excited to announce a brand new roster of activities.  We’re offering everything from volcano climbing, to mountain biking, horseback riding, cooking classes to craft workshops.”

Perez adds it’s exciting to look to the future.  “There’s no question the last four weeks have been stressful for everyone.  But we are resilient.  We could have simply sat back and watched visitors slip away, but instead, we’re using this as a great opportunity.  We are developing new activities, new options and new tourism packages that embrace all our region has to offer.”

2013-04-15The new activities are either already in place or will be coming online within the next two to three weeks.

Tierra del Volcan is safe and open for business.  Perez adds  “If you’ve ever thought about watching an active volcano from a completely safe area, we look forward to your visit.  It’s truly a unique experience.”
