As part of the Educational Travel Community’s (ETC) commitment to promoting responsible tourism, the organization runs an annual contest to recognize the efforts of its members and partners who diligently develop and implement sustainable and responsible tourism initiatives.

Each member presents a project, and then the ETC awards prizes to the top three based on an evaluation.

The Mullaka’s Misminay project, sponsored by Condor Travel and its non-for-profit association, Wings, won third place in this year’s contest. The project attempts to improve the living conditions of the 150 families living in this small community, located 75 minutes away from Cusco, through homestays; visitors have the chance to take part in the locals’ everyday activities, like farm chores, ploughing, cooking, weaving, etc.

First place went to Ecuador’s Tropic Journeys in Nature, and Inkaterra won second with its project in Machu Picchu and Reserva Amazónica.
