Self-Guided Bicycle Tours In Chile by Amity Tours

IMG_4047Amity Tours is proud to announce the development of the first self-guided cycling tour in the Lake & Volcano district in Chile. Amity Tours is the main tour operator in Chile that provides road cycling and mountain bike tours. In 2016 the Chilean government asked Amity Tours to develop the first self-guided route by the Llanquihue Lake and the Carretera Austral, where the ATWS took place in October 2015.

We feel very grateful that we had the chance to develop this experience where people will be able to ride independently at their own pace through amazing back roads in the Lake & Volcano District. We are committed to launch this tour at the end of the spring-summer season 2017 in the Southern Hemisphere. To accomplish this initiative, Amity Tours will be working within the local communities and business owners so they could be truly bike friendly and offer the best services to the visitors that will be biking through the area.

IMG_4115With this project, visitors will be able to witness the local culture, daily life and diversity of sights of the Llanquihue Lake. The riders will be travelling overland with the possibility to reach the corners of the lake, experiencing the amazing landscape, including ancient forests, villages, micro-breweries, farms, lakes and active volcanoes.

We again thank the Chilean Government for trusting Amity Tours to develop this new product. We are expecting to have great experiences building this route. We look forward to launching the first self-guided bike tour in Chile and meeting new riders that will fulfill the initiative.

  1. I’m writing to you from Portland, Oregon, USA. A buddy and I have a long tradition of cycling trips (road bikes or hybrids) around the world. Some have been guided tours, others have been self-guided. We prefer self-guided, except when we’re traveling in an area with security concerns or significant navigational issues. Generally, the trips are fairly short — maybe 7 – 14 days or so. As we get older (we’re 60 years old, but fairly fit), we find we’re drawn to no more than moderate difficulty rides, somewhat shorter days (6 hours of riding) having someone else transfer our luggage, and pretty decent hotels. And of course, really good food.

We’re looking for advice and help in planning our next trip, which would be in late February or March. We’re looking for someplace with good weather that time of year. It could be a customized tour, or one you routinely offer, but we’re not really interested in being part of a larger group.

Specifically, we’ve been looking at Chile as a possibility. Would you be able to put together a suitable trip? Would be very interested in your thoughts.

Also, are there other destinations you might suggest for that time of year? In recent years, we’ve been to India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Italy (but not Sardinia or Sicily), and Croatia — all great destinations, but we’d prefer someplace new.

What can you recommend? We look forward to working with you. Many thanks for your assistance!
