Ecuador's Capital Leads Once Again at South & Central America Gala This Past Weekend

Held in Quito’s Centro Cultural Itchimbia, over 300 industry leaders flew in from across Ecuador, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Panama, Chile and Belize. Ecuador was also recognized as South America’s Leading Green Destination and South America’s Leading Tourism Board went to the Ecuador Ministry of Tourism. Quito’s new international airport, Mariscal Sucre International was also named Leading Airport for South America.

Other winners exemplifying the best in Quito and Ecuador tourism include Swissotel Quito, which won South America’s Leading Conference Hotel and Ecuador’s Tren Crucero – South America’s Leading Luxury Train. A full list of winners may be found at http://www.worldtravelawards.com/winners2014-12.

Quito ensured the Gala event also showcased its local artists while guests dined on a five-course menu created by Chef Pablo Zambrano, showcasing ingredients from the coast, Andes and the Amazon. Among the thousands of roses decorating the Itchimbia Centre, models showcased “Inspirato Corpo”, created by Ecuadorian designers Olga Doumet and Gustavo Moscoso. They seek to blend fashion and art on the human body, and created haute couture dresses painted by some of Ecuador’s most established artists. Miguel Betancourt, Oswaldo Viteri, Ramón Piaguaje, María Fernanda, Cereceda, Wilson Paccha, Sarah Darling were among the artists who presented their works on 10 dresses.

The World Travel Awards gala ceremonies are widely regarded as the best networking opportunities in the travel industry. They next visit The Oberoi, New Delhi India, on October 10th, then onto the Island of Anguilla. The Grand Final will be held in Marrakech, Morocco on November 29th.
