Chile Nativo Travel has become the first, and currently the only, operator to measure and certify the carbon footprint of a W Trek program in Torres del Paine National Park, marking a significant step forward for sustainable adventure travel in Patagonia. While we are proud of this achievement, we sincerely hope it will soon inspire others across the industry to follow suit.

Chile Nativo Travel has achieved a major sustainability milestone with the certification of the carbon footprint of its iconic W Trek program in Torres del Paine National Park. This marks the first time a tourism program in Chile has undergone a comprehensive carbon emissions assessment and received official certification through HuellaChile, the carbon management program of Chile’s Ministry of Environment. The certification process involved a detailed analysis of the program’s operations, including transportation, accommodation, food services, heating systems, and per-passenger emissions. The assessment provides a clear understanding of the environmental impact generated throughout the travel experience and establishes a baseline for future reduction efforts.

As Chile celebrates 100 years since the creation of its first National Park, conversations around conservation and the future of protected areas are more relevant than ever. Through its participation in the Natural es Cuidar campaign, Chile Nativo joins a nationwide effort to highlight the value of protecting Chile’s natural heritage and promoting a deeper connection with nature.

The certification of the carbon footprint of its W Trek program reflects this commitment in practice, demonstrating how tourism can become a force for conservation through transparency, responsibility, and continuous improvement.
