Natural Habitat Adventures (Nat Hab), the world’s leading nature travel company, today announces the launch of Nat Hab Cultural Journeys, a new collection of 20 itineraries across 18 countries. Designed around personal encounters with the people who give a place its character, the journeys connect travelers with local communities, bringing them into homes, farms, studios and temples to explore the heritage, traditions and values that shape everyday life.
Where Nat Hab’s nature adventures focus on nature and wildlife, Cultural Journeys put people and their relationship to place at the center of the experience. Trusted local partners open their kitchens, fields and workshops to intimate groups capped at 12 guests. On itineraries designed for immersion, fewer stops and longer stays allow time for conversations to unfold and connections to deepen.
The culture-focused trips are the vision of Finlay Bressler, son of Nat Hab founder Ben Bressler, who manages the new product line as Director, Nat Hab Cultural Journeys.
“I grew up exploring wild places my dad would bring me to with Nat Hab,” says Bressler. “I love nature. But I’ve always been drawn to people and their relationship with the land. Nat Hab Cultural Journeys was born from the belief that travel can nurture understanding while helping to preserve longstanding traditions and cultural practices, from artisan crafts to home cooking, wine making, bee keeping, music, storytelling, and more.”
Recognizing that travel is most meaningful when it enhances travelers’ connections with others, Nat Hab Cultural Journeys expands on Nat Hab’s mission ofconservation through exploration, broadening it to include conserving culture alongside nature.
The inaugural trip collection, showcased in a brand-new catalog, brings this approach to life through encounters that reveal a destination in highly personal ways. Vietnam: An Intimate Portrait brings guests together for a private dinner in the Hoi An home of Chef Duc, a former Vietnam War refugee whose international cooking career and return home reflect a deeply personal story of belonging. His hospitality was shaped by his mother, a duck farmer who fed a family of 10 and welcomed a constant stream of guests. In Hue, travelers share tea with a monk who studied under Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, discussing Buddhist philosophy and its place in contemporary life.
By spending time with chefs, farmers, artists and other cultural stewards, guests direct the economic value of tourism toward communities often affected by economic strain, climate change, the homogenizing effect of digital technology, and other challenges. The intent is to divert attention away from mass tourism destinations to provide a conscientious presence and positive impact in captivating places that need it most.
Other Cultural Journeys highlights include foraging alongside a local truffle hunter and his dog in Italy’s Piedmont region, savoring dinner at a private gastronomic society in Spain’s Basque country, watching weavers at work in India’s fabled silk production center of Mysuru, a perfume-making workshop in Provence, watching stars from a nomad camp in the Moroccan Sahara, and drifting down the Nile aboard a private eight-cabin dahabiya, seeing monuments but also going ashore to meet local Egyptian farmers and dine in a family home.
"In these settings, luxury is the personal welcome you receive and the access a trusted relationship makes possible,” says Bressler. “It’s having a group small enough to gather around someone’s table and enough time to let the conversation unfold organically. We want our guests to come home with a warm and deep understanding of the people they’ve met and a fresh perspective on their own lives.”
Nat Hab Cultural Journeys are built and operated by Natural Habitat Adventures, offering the same quality, integrity, sustainability and innovative small-group approach Nat Hab is known for. Outstanding Expedition Leaders, chosen for their deep knowledge and relational ability to facilitate connections between guests, communities and culture, provide travelers with both expertise and personal care every step of the way.
