Intrepid Travel is charging ahead with its decarbonization strategy in Latin America, introducing its first-ever electric vehicle for passenger transfers in Quito, Ecuador. With pilots also underway in Bogotá, Colombia, Intrepid becomes the only travel company currently offering EV transfers in Quito—and the first to begin reshaping the region’s travel footprint.

The new EV is just the beginning. Intrepid is actively exploring the introduction of an electric minibus in 2026, aiming to convert its entire Ecuador fleet in the coming years.
The new electric vehicle rollout was made possible through a long-time partnership with Eduardo Cuenca, Intrepid’s sole transportation provider in Ecuador since 2012. This family-run business has been integral to Intrepid’s growth in the region and shares the company’s vision of using innovation to create a better kind of tourism.
Leigh Barnes, Intrepid President, The Americas:
“This isn’t just about reducing emissions—it’s about transforming the future of travel in partnership with the people who make it possible. We’re proud to be the first, but our goal is to set the standard and bring others with us.”
Fausto Sarango, General Manager, Intrepid Ecuador:
“This is what climate action looks like—bold, local, and built on trust. We’re proving that a small family business and a global travel company can work together to drive real, lasting change.” Intrepid’s broader decarbonization strategy includes verified science-based targets to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050, which includes more EV transfers. In 2024, Intrepid offered a total of 2,744 transfers across 11 countries.
