Newfoundland’s Fogo Island Inn has been named by Travel + Leisure readers as Best Resort Hotel, Canada in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2017 readers’ survey, the leading barometer of the top travel destinations and companies in the U.S. and around the globe. The Inn was also named 12th on Travel + Leisure’s list of the Top 100 Hotels in the World.
The 2017 “Best List,” featuring the world’s leaders in tourism and travel, will appear in the upcoming August issue of Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine. Fogo Island Inn was selected by Travel + Leisure readers for its commitment to providing meaningful guest experiences through thoughtful engagement with place and community. Its placement on this highly selective annual list comes at the mid-point of its fifth Summer Season. “I am thrilled that our Inn, located on an island off an island in the North Atlantic, has been selected as the top resort hotel in Canada, and 12th best in the world,” says Steve Cannizzaro, General Manager of Fogo Island Inn. “We are honoured to be recognized amongst such respected properties.”
This past year, Travel + Leisure editors asked readers across the globe to report on their best travel experiences. To produce the 22nd annual Travel + Leisure Readers’ Choice Best List, readers rated properties based on characteristics such as facilities, rooms, location and food. “Travel + Leisure’s annual World’s Best Awards provide a picture of what the world’s most discerning travelers are finding most satisfying in travel right now. What’s clear to me this year is how much they are drawn to experiences that aren’t just enjoyable but provide something richer—cultural immersion, mental and physical well-being, a true sense of adventure,” said Travel + Leisure Editor in Chief Nathan Lump. “It’s not easy to satisfy this group, but the destinations, hotels, and companies that are doing it know that today’s traveler cares about a lot more than creature comforts.”
Fogo Island Inn received the Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award for Culture in 2013, and similarly placed on their 2014 It List. This year, Fogo Island Inn shares the coveted Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2017 readers’ survey recognition with no more than 100 other standout properties.
