Santiago, CHILE – explora has been named “South America’s Leading Expedition Company” in the World Travel Awards 2013, with the company’s Hotel de Larache in Atacama also claiming the “Leading Boutique Hotel” accolade for Chile.

Known as the Oscars of tourism, the World Travel Awards celebrate excellence in all the fields of the travel industry. For almost twenty years the awards have sought to recognize quality, with winners setting a benchmark to which others aspire. Every year, tens of thousands of travel professionals vote for their favorite destinations, resorts, hotels, airports, travel companies, cruises and a long list of criteria.

explora is recognized for offering travelers not only a trip, but a new way of travelling to remote areas in South America such as the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, the mysterious Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific, the southernmost tip of the world in Patagonia and for the more adventurous, multi day nomadic journeys through the Bolivian Altiplano, northern Argentina or El Chaltén in Argentinean Patagonia.

Along these traditional programs, explora has recently launched two new special interest programs; Horseback Riding Expeditions and Photographic Expeditions, sponsored by Nikon Inc., and guided by Japanese photographer Katsuyoshi Tanaka.
