Lima, Perú - Condor Travel, one of the biggest Peruvian tour operators, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism by signing a contract with  the Rainforest Alliance to improve its environmental, social and economic practices according to the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.

Since its founding in 1977, Condor Travel is committed to working with local hotels, shops, restaurants, tour guides, communities and other tourism businesses. Condor Travel is currently running an Inclusive Business Project with a local community in Cusco, Mullak’as-Misminay, with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and Netherland Development Organization (SNV).

Condor Travel aims to improve all their operations with a holistic focus as the Rainforest Alliance program proposes. Under this contract, Condor Travel will adopt sustainable practices and pursue voluntary certification with a national or international certification program.

The company will first apply these criteria in Cusco, where its main tour programs, such as the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley Tour and the Vivential Tours in Misminay, originate from.

The Rainforest Alliance works with tourism businesses to help them to preserve the environment and contribute to local livelihood, through (1) training, (2) technical assistance and (3) verification visits. When Condor Travel meets the requirements , it will be eligible to receive other promotional benefits, including the use of the Rainforest Alliance Verified™ mark.

A key factor in achieving this new objective will be the participation of Condor Travel’s staff in Lima and Cusco. The company plans to manage this new goal through to their personnel’s professionalism, responsibility and commitment to sustainable tourism.
