Bangkok, THAILAND – One of the core values of Centara Hotels & Resorts is to design and implement effective green initiatives throughout the year. This is in keeping with its overall corporate responsibility in making a difference through small and more significant initiatives in reducing its global footprint. The World Environment Day that took place on June 5, 2015 provided Centara with an opportunity to highlight its initiatives and display special activities as a way of celebrating the importance of environmental responsibility within the hotel industry.
All the staff was involved in helping to put in place creative activities that would raise awareness and demonstrate how Centara is a leader in environmental responsibility. For example, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok rewarded guests of their Chatuchak Café restaurant with a 20% discount for those who did not waste any food. At Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, the team had a costume contest for the best costume made out of recycled materials.
A few other properties also had interesting activities such as at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin the management team and associates supported ‘Nern Din Dang’ community and Samor Prong Temple through educating the community about how to make bio fertilizer (EM) from wet garbage and donating money that will assist to build public toilets. Local school students joined the team at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi to plant orchids that are currently on the conversation list. In the Maldives, Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa planted banyan trees and 150 caryopteris along the property’s walkways.
These activities worked very well since they involve guests, staff as well as the local community in the process of building environmental awareness and conservation. Throughout the year, Centara properties organize weekly beach or area clean-ups, while other properties employ fully integrated initiatives to enhance the environment and their local communities.
