TORONTO—Butterfield & Robinson announced today that the company has appointed Norman Howe, formerly President and Chief Creative Officer at Horizon & Co., as President, joining Chairman & CEO Erik Blachford and others to further strengthen the existing management team.
A former B&R executive, Norman brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the President role. Since 2003 he has led Horizon through a successful expansion and eventual sale, and has developed a stellar industry reputation for his management and creative abilities. In 1994 Norman left a legal career behind to join B&R as the Director of Expeditions, eventually becoming the VP of Sales & Business Development.
Butterfield & Robinson was founded in 1966 by George Butterfield, Martha Butterfield and Sidney Robinson. All three are still actively involved in the company as directors and co-owners. George stepped down as Chairman and President in 2008.
Erik Blachford, former CEO of Expedia, Inc, joined B&R as Chairman, CEO and co-owner in 2009. B&R has greatly benefited from Erik’s leadership.
Norman Howe says, “B&R delivers the highest quality active trips in the world, and I couldn’t be more excited about helping move the business forward, both in its current form and through new opportunities.”
“It’s a great time for us to add someone of Norm’s caliber to our management team,” says Erik Blachford. “He’s got just the right combination of experience at B&R and elsewhere to help us round out our offerings.”
George Butterfield continues his active involvement in the company, with a particular focus on maintaining the high level of quality that Butterfield & Robinson has become known for. “After 45 years in business, I wake up every morning excited about where we can go next,” says George Butterfield. “I’ve known Norm for well over a decade and know that he will add immeasurably to our existing talented team helping us get to great places in a way that is distinctively B&R.”
Butterfield & Robinson offers innovative itineraries worldwide. Their motto since 1966 remains “Slow down to see the world.” Imaginative trip design, exquisite service and a tireless pursuit of the world’s most fascinating places continue to make B&R a leader in luxury active travel.
