Three scholarships will help emerging tour operators advance their careers. Applications for the Tour Operator Scholarship Program open 1 March and close on 17 March 2023.

Aligning its long-standing Tour Operator Scholarship Program with its mission, the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), in partnership with Jordan Tourism Board, will offer three tour operators scholarships in 2023. Now in its twelfth year, the annual scholarship program supports up-and-coming tour operators by providing financial support and access to fellow adventure travel industry partners.

The ATTA seeks motivated tour operators who have demonstrated potential for creating a positive impact on local cultural, ecological, or historical resources and a high level of professionalism while employing ethical business practices. The three scholarship recipients will be selected based on their strategies in one of the key areas important to the association:

  • Making a positive economic impact on local communities
  • Being innovative in order to conserve the natural environment and cultural heritage
  • Efforts to combat climate change
  • Efforts to address diversity and inclusion

Three scholarship winners will receive an ATTA Business Membership — gaining access to the organization’s global network, membership resources, and benefits — and a delegate seat and travel stipend for the 2023 Adventure Travel World Summit, which will take place from 11-14 September 2023 in Hokkaido, Japan. Additionally, they will be given free access to a track of online AdventureEDU courses of their choice.

This year, ATTA will also offer one year of Professional Membership and access to AdventureEDU courses to five additional candidates with strong applications who will benefit from the resources and networking opportunities this will provide.

To qualify for this program, applicants must have been in business for at least two years with an annual revenue of less than $250,000 USD. See the full list of qualification criteria and more details about what scholarship recipients will receive here

The 2022 scholarship recipients included Claire Copeman of tour operator Adventure Tours UK, Ivania Sibrian of Guatemala-based GUATE4YOU, and Mauricio Miramontes of La Mano del Mono. Sponsored by Visit Sweden, the three 2022 scholarship recipients received a year of Business Membership in the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), registration to the 2022 Adventure Travel World Summit in Lugano, Switzerland, a travel stipend, and access to ATTA’s online courses in Business and Risk Management.

The 2023 Tour Operator Scholarship Program submission period is now open and will close 17 March at 11:59 PDT. Tour operators from around the globe are invited to submit their applications through the Tour Operator Scholarship page, where additional information about the program and applications are found.
