Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) media member JoAnna Haugen has launched a matching donation fundraiser through Planeterra, G Adventures’ non-profit partner. Through her brand Rooted, Haugen is personally matching up to $500 in donations to the organization’s Turn Travel Into Impact From Home campaign.

This specific Planeterra campaign supports community partners being affected by the collapse of international travel. Rooted’s campaign theme, “Community Support Today, Meaningful Travel Tomorrow,” reflects the brand’s mission to responsibly document, support, celebrate, and share sustainable travel initiatives that put communities first.

“My most memorable travel experiences are from personal connections I make and conversations I have along the way,” Haugen said. “Those are the kinds of moments I want to encounter again when we’re able to travel. To do that later, right now we need to support the people and communities who make those moments possible.”

Several organizations will receive funding through Planeterra’s Turn Travel Into Impact From Home campaign, many of which are directly related to the UN’s sustainable development goals. For example, Together We earn in India, will allow the organization to expand training for and empower women as entrepreneurs. Another project, Senang Hati in Indonesia, runs training programs for adults living with disabilities in Bali to gain independence and confidence in the formal economy. People involved with both projects currently need help accessing basic needs.

The fundraising campaign will run through May 29. Haugen will match up to $500 worth of donations at the conclusion of the campaign. Donate here, and please consider sharing it with others who may be able to support local communities today for meaningful travel memories tomorrow.
