Nicolás Caram is ATTA’s new Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, while Gabi Stowell is new VP for Regional Development

The ATTA would like to introduce a new Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Nicolás Caram, who replaces Gabi Stowell in this role. A natural move from his previous position as Country Manager for Chile, Nicolás has extensive previous experience in the region and oversight on a number of successful projects, including AdventureNEXT Patagonia in Magallanes. He is currently the event director for ATTA's upcoming AdventureNEXT Latin America in Bogotá this June.

Nicolás Caram

From the south of the south, Nicolás was born in Chile. He is a lifelong traveler and a regular visitor to National Parks and their surrounding communities. In love with nature and wildlife, very early on he decided to specialize his studies as a Commercial Engineer towards the tourism sector. After an exchange year in Brisbane, he has dedicated his professional life to the development of adventure tourism. His career has led him to live very diverse experiences, such as being marketing coordinator for Australis expedition cruises in Patagonia, as well as leader of adventure and nature tourism development for the Chilean Ministry of Tourism. More recently he has advised international NGOs in the design of sustainable tourism and conservation strategies.

After earning a master’s degree in Local Economic Development at The London School of Economics, his interests focused on developing emerging markets in rural sectors with tourism potential. He believes that adventure tourism is a tool that, if well managed, can have positive effects in social, economic, and environmental terms.

In addition to trekking, Nicolás enjoys various outdoor and sporting activities in his spare time. He was Vice President of a Mountain Club and created a mountaineering course for youngsters, obtained his PADI diving certification, completed a river kayaking course, is currently training to run his fifth marathon and, when he has time, enjoys biking through natural areas.

As Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Nicolás will be the first point of contact to work with ATTA's partners in the region and will play a significant role in ATTA's regional work including development, events and market activations. He firmly believes in the high potential the region has for sustainable tourism development. The protection of pristine areas and cultural traditions are basic principles to put destinations and their inhabitants first.

Meanwhile, Gabi Stowell has moved into the position of Vice President of Regional Development, a new strategic role created to continue supporting the different regions with greater emphasis and to keep expanding the global and local reach of the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
