The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) has announced that the 2027 Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) will take place in Andalucía, Spain, from 4-7 October 2027. The Summit will bring the adventure travel community to the province of Almería in southeastern Spain, a region where volcanic coastline, desert badlands, and high mountain terrain sit within a short distance of one another.

ATWS is ATTA's flagship annual gathering, convening tour operators, destination representatives, travel media, and thought leaders for a week of education, business development, and on-the-ground experience. Following the 2026 Summit in Québec City, the 2027 edition returns the event to Europe.

"Andalucía offers our community a destination with remarkable natural diversity and a strong commitment to protecting it," said Gustavo Timo, President of ATTA. "We look forward to welcoming delegates to Almería and to the conversations, partnerships, and ideas that will take shape there."

A Destination of Contrasts

Almería holds a range of ecosystems that is uncommon within a single province. Along the coast, Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park is known for its volcanic coves and clear Mediterranean waters. Inland, the Tabernas badlands form Europe's only true desert, while the peaks of the Sierra Nevada rise to the northwest. The region receives around 3,300 hours of sunshine each year, and approximately 30 percent of its territory is under environmental protection, making it a fitting setting for a Summit that has long centered conservation and responsible development in its program.

For delegates, this variety translates into a wide spectrum of adventure experiences, from hiking and cycling to coastal paddling and mountain exploration, alongside the cultural and culinary heritage for which Andalucía is well known.

The Summit Program

Pre-Summit Adventures take place the week before, allowing delegates to explore the region in depth before the formal program begins. Monday, 4 October, features the Day of Adventure, followed by registration and the Opening Reception.

From Tuesday, 5 October, through Thursday, 7 October, the Summit moves into its core program of plenary keynotes and breakout sessions, alongside the Marketplace, where buyers and suppliers meet in structured business-to-business appointments. MediaCONNECT will again give media delegates and industry members a dedicated space to share story ideas and build working relationships. Delegates depart on Friday, 8 October.

Opportunities to Take Part

Applications are now open for Hosted Buyer and Official Media Delegates at ATWS 2027. ATTA will select 30 hosted buyers, including outbound tour operators, travel advisors and online travel agencies, who build itineraries with local ground partners. Selected buyers receive complimentary registration, round-trip economy airfare to Almería, accommodations, pre-scheduled Marketplace meetings and a five- to six-day Pre-Summit Adventure in Spain. Twenty Official Media Delegates, including journalists, editors, broadcasters and content creators covering adventure and sustainability, will receive a similar hosted package, along with media accreditation and time with the trade at MediaCONNECT. Both buyer applications and media applications close on 10 January 2027.

ATTA is also looking for speakers who bring expertise, new ideas and thoughtful perspectives on developing adventure tourism responsibly. Anyone can nominate a speaker or suggest a topic, and self-nominations are welcome.

For destinations and organizations that want to connect with the community in Andalucía, partnership opportunities are now open. Options include hosted meals and receptions, speaking slots, showcase booths, and custom sustainability and networking partnerships.
