ASI Reisen is realigning its climate investments: in future, instead of investing in compensation projects, the funds will flow into the GET Fund, a cleantech venture capital investor that specifically invests in start-ups developing innovative technologies with scalable business models for decarbonisation.

For the family-owned company, founded in 1963, this step marks the consistent further development of a long-standing commitment. ASI Reisen was the first travel company in the German-speaking region to fully calculate the emissions of its trips, transparently disclose them and fully offset the emissions of its trips, including flights.

“We started taking responsibility early on and making our emissions visible,” explains Ambros Gasser, CEO of ASI Reisen. “The next logical step is to direct capital to where real change is created – into solutions that do not merely compensate, but improve systems.”

Until now, ASI Reisen offset the emissions of its ASI Original trips through certified climate protection projects. In cooperation with First Climate, the company supported, among others, a hydropower project in India and water filter programmes at schools in Kenya. The offsetting fee was automatically included in the travel price.

Focus on long-term impact

With the further development of international climate research and a better understanding of effective climate action, ASI Reisen has deliberately advanced its strategy. Going forward, the central question will be where investments can create the greatest leverage. To this end, the company developed a comprehensive catalogue of criteria together with a specialised green finance consultant. The assessment included impact frameworks, reporting standards, regulatory classification under Article 9, governance structures, and the quality of teams and portfolios. On this basis, ASI Reisen analysed around ten funds and selected the GET Fund, which best met the requirements in terms of impact, transparency and scalability.

“For us, sustainability means continuously questioning and further developing our decisions,” says Nia Klatte, Head of Sustainability & Impact at ASI Reisen. “We are deliberately investing where innovations have the potential to make the greatest long-term difference.”

The partnership is also seen as a strong signal by the fund:

“We are proud to have gained ASI Reisen as such a renowned and values-driven company as an investor and partner,” says Dr Isabelle Canu, Partner of the GET Fund. “Scaling climate technologies through capital goes far beyond traditional compensation and acts as a catalyst for measurable decarbonisation in the real economy.”

CO₂ calculation will remain an integral part of every trip. At the same time, ASI Reisen is continuously working to further reduce emissions along the entire value chain.

Investment areas

The GET Fund focuses on technologies and business models in key areas of the net-zero transformation:

  • Mobility – low-emission and zero-emission transport
  • Infrastructure – climate-resilient cities and regions
  • Buildings & energy efficiency – reducing energy consumption
  • Energy storage – enabling the use of renewable energy
  • Sustainable materials & production – more climate-friendly processes
  • Weather and climate resilience – adaptation to extreme events

By realigning its climate investments, ASI Reisen is deliberately focusing on solutions with structural impact – taking another step towards responsible and future-proof travel.
