Aligning its long-standing Tour Operator Scholarship Program with the organization’s social and environmental initiatives, the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) plans to award four tour operators with scholarships in 2018. The annual program has been in place since 2009 and is designed to support up-and-coming tour operators by providing access to fellow industry partners who are members of the ATTA’s global network.

This year's scholarship recipients will be selected based on work focused on women in leadership, climate action, reducing plastic use, and empowering youth.

The four scholarship recipients will be selected based on their unique strategies for making a difference in one of the key areas important to the association:

  • Women in leadership
  • Climate action
  • Reducing plastic use
  • Empowering the next generation of leaders in today’s youth
Scholarship winners for 2018 will receive an ATTA membership, gaining access to the ATTA’s global network of more than 1,000 members, membership resources and benefits, and a delegate seat and Marketplace table for the 2018 Adventure Travel World Summit, which will take place 15-18 October 2018 in Tuscany, Italy.

The Jordan Tourism Board is the official partner for the 2018 Tour Operator Scholarship Program and sponsoring three of the four scholarships categories — climate action, reducing plastic use, and youth leadership. “The Jordan Tourism Board is honored to sponsor this year’s Tour Operator Scholarship Program for the 2018 Adventure Travel World Summit. As the JTB increases its focus and commitment to promoting sustainable travel and community tourism in Jordan, it is only fitting that we are able to offer this opportunity to support tour operators in their efforts to empower women and youth and make a positive impact on the environment. Through the World Summit and other global events, the ATTA has been a driving force in making way for such opportunities, and we are proud to partner with them,” said Janine Jervis, deputy director of the Jordan Tourism Board, North America.

The fourth scholarship for the program, which supports the women in leadership initiative, is provided by the Adventure Angels, a group of women who share and pursue the spirit of adventure, and will support a woman-owned adventure business that is based in an emerging market country. The winner will be selected jointly by the ATTA and the Adventure Angels and will receive a 14-hour mentorship package with the Adventure Angels as well as the benefits mentioned above.

“These female trailblazers touch our hearts in a meaningful manner. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the ATTA, and we applaud our teams for giving women from emerging nations the magnificent chance to answer the call to adventure,” said Gaby de Vega, a founding member of the Adventure Angels.

The Tour Operator Scholarship submission period opens today, 25 April 2018, with final entries due by 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on 20 May 2018. Tour operators from around the globe are invited to submit their applications using the Tour Operator Scholarship submission form, where additional information about the program and application details can be found.
