Tourism organizations and businesses with short films created in the last year that inspire viewers to experience adventure travel are encouraged to enter the contest. This year’s campaign is looking for films that tell a story, educate and inform, and inspire action.

To be considered, films should:

  • Have been produced after 1 May 2016.
  • Have a maximum run-time of five minutes (including titles and credits).
Submission period: 31 May-31 July 2017
Committee voting period: 3-11 August 2017
Notification sent to finalists: By 17 August 2017
Contest promotion and public voting period for finalists’ films: 26 August-30 September 2017

An Adventure in Motion Voting Committee will vote on the submitted films in August. The seven (7) finalists chosen will be notified by 17 August. The 2017 Voting Committee includes Dan Westergren, visual storyteller and former director of photography at National Geographic Travel, Kenneth Shapiro of TravelAge West, James Sano of World Wildlife Fund, Chunnie Wright of the Law Office of Chun T. Wright, Fernando Escudero of Autentica Salta, Steve Barker of Wild Places, and Casey Hanisko of the ATTA.

The campaign will go live on 26 August 2017, and public voting will officially open. At the end of the campaign period (30 September), the top three finalists will be chosen based on the highest number of Facebook “likes,” and all three videos will be showcased at the Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) in Salta, Argentina. A live vote will be cast during the screening, with a final grand prize winner chosen by the ATWS attending delegates. Contestants are encouraged to share their entry on social media, especially Facebook. Facebook likes will be counted as votes.

The winner will receive a one-year ATTA membership, a ticket to the 2018 Adventure Travel World Summit, a grand prize from ExOfficio, prizes from AFAR, and exposure through AdventureTravelNews, the Adventure.Travel website, and Adventure.Travel email newsletter(s) sent to 200,000+ consumers.

Last year’s Adventure in Motion contest received more than 100 film submissions, which were showcased during a month-long consumer- and industry-facing campaign, resulted in three finalists (based on highest number of Facebook likes), an ATTA Pick, and an ExOfficio Partner Pick. The 2016 grand prize winner was Salkantay Inca Trail: The Ultimate Trek to Machu Picchu by Mountain Lodges of Peru and GLP films. All finalists received plenary session exposure at the Adventure Travel World Summit during a live screening of the five films, as well as email and social media exposure to ExOfficio’s audience, AFAR’s audience, and 200,000+ travelers on Adventure.Travel.
