In celebration of the bicentennial of the bike, TDA Global Cycling’s TDA Foundation is launching the #200for200 Summer Cycling Challenge with a goal to raise $200,000 and give the gift of 1,000 new bicycles in Africa. For every cyclist or team that rides 200 kilometers, raises $200 and challenges two friends to do the same from June 12-Sept. 12, 2017, the TDA Foundation will donate one bike in Africa – giving the gift of transportation and connecting students to schools, patients to health care and entrepreneurs to economic opportunity. Join the campaign.
On June 12, 1817 – 200 years ago – Karl Von Drais first rode his pedal-less, two-wheeled Draisine in what is now Mannheim, Germany. To mark that bicentennial, TDA Global Cycling’s TDA Foundation is gearing up to donate more bikes than ever before through the #200for200 challenge.
Any cyclist can participate in the Summer Cycling Challenge, regardless of age, fitness level or geographical location. The challenge can be undertaken by solo riders, pairs or teams of riders working collaboratively toward the 200-kilometer, $200 goal.
A challenge is officially complete when a cyclist or team of cyclists has ridden 200k, raised $200 and challenged at least two friends on social media, tagging @tdacycling and using the official #200for200 hashtag. There is no maximum limit to the number of challenges a rider or team of riders can complete. Feeling ambitious? Keep riding! Keep fundraising! Every $200 buys another bike for a recipient in Africa. (TDA Global Cycling is based in Toronto, Canada, so donations will be tracked in CAD.)
A top prize winner will be awarded a dream trip consisting of one section of a TDA Global Cycling bike tour, which includes flight, accommodations, meals and an invitation to participate in the #200for200 bicycle presentation ceremony.
