On Wednesday, a number of Summit delegates took a look at Montecatini Terme through a social media lens during the Instagram Walkabout, held during two separate sessions. Social media strategist Sree Sreenivasan offered a few tips for utilizing photography and social sharing apps to convey a story or image to a wider audience. “The idea of the walk was to get as much knowledge and familiarity with the phone as possible, and then, how do you take better photos with that,” he said.

Delegates walked away with a number of actionable tips they can apply right away to improve their own Instagram accounts. Sreenivasan suggested people shoot with the phone camera versus the Instagram camera, and minimize the use of filters. “Filters look more artificial, and people can tell,” he said.

Beyond the photos themselves, Sreenivasan suggested writing a clear caption that includes information on what the image is and where it was taken. “This is really important in the travel industry,” he said. Using one to three hashtags in the original caption can be helpful for capturing the right audience, but all other hashtags should be published in the first comment of the post.

Two additional Instagram Walkabout sessions will be offered Thursday at 7:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Delegates can sign up through the event app. Capacity is capped at 20 delegates per session.
