Specialists in mountain biking tours to unusual destinations

RIDE AWAY launched in March 2008 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, home to some of the most awesome single track routes in the world. We offer exciting alternatives to cyclists wanting to explore and experience other regions and cultures.

Mountain biking is our passion and we understand what mountain bikers want.

  • Jeep track, flowing single track, country roads, mountain climbs and stunning descents.
  • Mind blowing scenery, riding through remote villages and experiencing other cultures.
  • We work hand in hand with the best mountain biking companies and guides in the countries we offer.
  • Mixing with like minded people with a passion for riding, adventure and exploring.
  • We give back to the communities whose paths we cross by hiring local guides, sourcing local suppliers, and donating sports items to needy children.
Mountain biking is the fastest growing sport in South Africa and we have more than 700 mountain bike races a year ranging from 100 to 3000 riders per race. There are probably more stage races here than in any other country and we believe that a large percentage of South African mountain bikers are now looking for “something different”. Ride Away has seen the huge potential for tours both in our country and abroad. Cyclists are wanting to ride with their friends at a pace where they can enjoy the terrain, stop to take in the view, the culture and socialise during and after the ride. We offer that and would like to increase the number of destinations have.

At present we offer mountain biking trips to:

Thailand
New Zealand
Croatia
Peru
South Africa
France

We cater for all types of riders, from beginner to advanced and will customise a trip to suit the group. Our clients are usually aged 30 to 65 and at present are mostly South Africans but we are looking to expand and offer more packages to South Africa . The tours we offer are not just about mountain biking but rather the opportunity to experience the cuisine, culture, history and geography of a country. We like to include things like adventure sport, wine tasting, eating some where local, visiting a local pub or perhaps a farm. Exploring a remote village seldom visited by tourists, riding back roads rather than on well worn routes. We take the path less travelled and we try to offer something exclusive, unusual and yet enjoyable

We are especially interested in forming lasting relationships with local companies from different countries that are primarily involved with mountain biking and cycling and who can offer customized group tours as well as offer places for individuals to join existing tours. We would also like to pursue our vision of bringing more mountain bikers to experience South Africa.
