FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Praveen Moman, Co-founder and Managing Director of award-winning tour company Volcanoes Safaris, will be serving as the Master of Ceremonies along with Mei Zhang of WildChina for the ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association) 2010 Adventure Travel World Summit that will take place in Aviemore, Scotland October 4th-7th. Praveen Moman spearheaded the effort to revive tourism in post-conflict Rwanda and Uganda, and has successfully created an award-winning tour company that specializes in great ape safaris.
A native of Uganda, Praveen Moman was part of an extended family that was a pioneering and adventuring Asian community at forefront of opening up tourism in East and Central Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries. He grew up in Africa before his family moved to Britain when he was a teenager. After being educated at London and Cambridge University in the UK followed by a career as a political and policy adviser in the British Government and the European Union, he returned to his African roots by co-founding Volcanoes Safaris in 1997 with Yusuf Mulima Mubiru.
Thanks to Praveen Moman’s guidance and vision, Volcanoes Safaris is widely recognized for the integrated, unique eco-tourism model they have created which is centered on protecting the threatened gorilla and chimpanzee populations of the Western Rift Valley in Africa. Volcanoes Safaris is the only company in the world who has built eco-lodges near the Mountain Gorilla parks in Africa. Using a truly grassroots method of promoting tourism, these eco-lodges were created to use environmental resources in a sustainable way while empowering local communities by employing only local people to manage them. Because of their highly successful model of tourism, Volcanoes Safaris has taken over 6000 clients on gorilla safaris, and currently employs over 100 people globally.
