A new short film highlighting responsible travel was just released by global travel insurance company World Nomads in partnership with OneSeed Expeditions. A product of their annual Travel Filmmaking Scholarship, the film features local Tanzanian entrepreneurs that are directly supported by OneSeed’s local partner Anza, an organization that enables businesses in Tanzania to grow by providing them with access to personalized and strategic capacity building, affordable capital, and relevant networks.

The World Nomads scholarship makes it possible for aspiring filmmakers to win an all-expenses-paid trip abroad to be mentored by a professional filmmaker and complete their own short film during the trip. Last fall, OneSeed Expeditions hosted the scholarship winner, Marissa Chabria of Costa Rica, in Tanzania alongside professional filmmaker Brian Rapsey.

The 9-minute short film explores how investments from OneSeed travelers support local Tanzanians through access to capital and the overall importance of connecting travelers to the people and places where they travel. OneSeed Expeditions has invested over $335,000 in local entrepreneurs in the countries where it operates over the last eight years. Since partnering with Anza in 2018, OneSeed travelers have directly supported local economies and business owners in East Africa.

“Our focus has always been on how to leave the greatest possible impact in-country whether it’s supporting local entrepreneurs through microfinance or hiring all expert local guides,” said Chris Baker, Founder of OneSeed Expeditions. “It’s always important to understand how travel impacts the countries where we explore, and this World Nomads piece tells that story so well.”

Whether it’s affordable health care, clean drinking water, or access to service-based education - local Tanzanians are able to start or expand their business with help from organizations like Anza.
