JoAnna Haugen is a writer, public speaker, and founder of Rooted, a storytelling platform at the intersection of sustainable travel, environmental conservation, and community-based advocacy efforts. Her writing has been published in more than 60 print and online publications including Popular Science, Mongabay, BBC Travel, Delta Sky, American Way, and Adventure.com. She has spoken to numerous audiences on sustainable travel, writing, and other topics.

A graduate of Washington State University, she majored in public relations and received a double minor in international business and German. A returned Peace Corps volunteer, international election observer, and intrepid traveler, JoAnna has crawled through a burial cave in the Cook Islands, volunteered as a chaser for the Energizer hot air balloon crew, spent a week rafting through the Grand Canyon, and hiked the 210-mile John Muir Trail in California, nearly 300 miles of the Alpe-Adria Trail in Austria, and across Liechtenstein.

She currently resides in Kyiv, Ukraine.
