After becoming the first cruise operator to implement a brand new social media tracking service on their remote voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic earlier this year, Aurora Expeditions has now taken home an award at the 2013 TRAVEL + LEISURE SMITTY (Social Media in Travel and Tourism) Awards.
Presented the ‘Best Overall Use of Social Media’ in the ‘Cruise Line’ category, the company is ecstatic to know that its pioneering efforts in social media are being acknowledged by TRAVEL + LEISURE editors and their panel of industry experts, as well as the wider travel industry.
The system, dubbed ‘Track my Trip’ and designed by TrekTraka, makes the most of the latest social media web-delivered software and aligns Aurora Expeditions in the forefront of the social networking space. This innovative and effective use of social media has allowed passengers to share their location, images and highlights of the destination via their social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, despite being in some of the most remote locations on Earth.
Not only does the system share the expedition highlights with friends, it also provides peace-of-mind to family members who can now follow the progress of their loved one on a journey that would otherwise sever any communications for an extended period.
