(SEATTLE) – October 16, 2006 – Several thousand adventure travel tour operators, lodges and resorts worldwide were invited this month to participate in the benchmark Adventure Travel State of the Industry Survey, sponsored by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and conducted by Michigan State University (MSU).

Upon the study’s completion in the fourth quarter of 2006, organizations successfully participating in the survey will receive digital access to the aggregate study in its entirety. Survey results, collected anonymously, are expected to provide valuable insight concerning current practices in marketing, baseline traveler demographics, emerging industry trends, and projections for future industry growth.

ATTA and MSU launched this survey as one element of an ongoing initiative to size up the global adventure travel market, learn more about current operational practices of participating businesses, and to complement other analytical tools being used to gauge the scope, reach and economic impact of the adventure travel industry. The survey results are expected to assist the immediate adventure travel community and related industries in assessing the adventure travel industry’s size, volume, trends and practices, leading to a more accurate understanding of the trends affecting their businesses.

All survey responses are anonymous and participant privacy is protected.  The survey is being administered, tabulated and analyzed by MSU on a secure internet site using encryption technology (SSL) to ensure confidentiality.  Neither MSU nor ATTA has access to information that identifies participant organizations, insuring confidentiality.

Adventure travel tour operators, lodges and resorts around the globe are invited to participate in the study.  Qualified organizations may access the survey at: http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=545195.   Final qualified surveys are being accepted through midnight Pacific Daylight Time, October 17, 2006. Once analyzed, the ATTA/MSU survey results will also be available for purchase.

The Seattle-based ATTA (www.adventuretravel.biz) is a strategic membership organization dedicated to raising the profile of adventure travel globally. Established in 1990, the ATTA provides services, knowledge, and connections that help its members succeed in their businesses and contribute to responsible industry growth. The Adventure Travel Trade Association also is host to the annual Adventure Travel World Summit (www.adventuretravelworldsummit.com).
