VANCOUVER, B.C. – The first in a series of “Meeting of the Minds” events gathered tour operators, destination marketing representatives, travel agents, and media from the broader Vancouver and Whistler areas. Hosted by the ATTA and held at the Canadian Tourism Commission offices, the event was attended by sixteen companies, where industry trends were discussed, marketing ideas shared and peer-to-peer networking was a highlight.

ATTA President, Shannon Stowell, presented current strengths and threats facing the industry along with Q1 2009 industry survey results. The round table presentation allowed for a lively discussion on topics such as the economy and how to adjust, Voluntourism trends, supplier/operator relationships, the small ship cruising industry, and whether adventure travelers will see a decline in the quality of services offered by tour companies and lodges worldwide due to the recession. In light of successful partnerships among ATTA members such as Tourism Yukon and Kelty, ExOfficio and Jordan Tourism Board, Teva and Belize and others, ‘Manufacturer FAM trips’ were brought to light as shared marketing opportunities that leverage the strengths of all the organizations.

Overall, expectations are high and excitement buzzes from our Canadian members, upcoming speakers, and the CTC for the Quebec-based Adventure Travel World Summit 2009.

Later this month, the ATTA will subsequently host another "Meeting of the Minds" regional meeting in Boulder (May 29). Learn more.
