U.S. outbound totaled 56.3 million for 2013, up two percent; Travel to Europe, Caribbean and Asia are top regions
November 2013/2012 Comparisons
U.S. travel to overseas markets(1) totaled 2.0 million, up three percent in November and one percent for the year (26.5 million). Regional results for the month were as follows:
- Europe, 660,000 travelers, up two percent
- Caribbean, 481,000 travelers, up seven percent
- Asia, 365,000 travelers, up two percent
- Central America, 178,000 travelers, up three percent
- South America, 135,000 travelers, flat
- Middle East, 124,000 travelers, up seven percent
- Oceania, 50,000 travelers, up four percent
- Africa, 23,000 travelers, down four percent
- Mexico, 1.8 million travelers, up four percent in November. Air travel (488,000) was up 10 percent
- Canada, 617,000 travelers, up three percent. Air travel (225,000) up five percent
U.S. travel to overseas locations accounted for 47 percent of U.S. outbound international travel.
- Europe, a 19 percent share;
- Caribbean, an 11 percent share;
- Asia, a seven percent share;
- Central America, a four percent share;
- South America, a three percent share;
- Middle East, a three percent share;
- Oceania, a one percent share, and
- Africa, a one percent share
- U.S. travel to Mexico a 33 percent share; and
- Canada a 20 percent share.

Total departure travel, inclusive of all modes, to Canada and Mexico is reported in addition to the air-only subtotals. The timing of this report is dependent on receipt of aggregate data from Stats Canada and Banco de Mexico.
