Expedia, Inc. the largest online travel company in the world, expands its group to Scotland.

In January, at an event held at The Scotch Whisky Experience, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh, the new Scottish team together with colleagues from other Expedia offices celebrated the launch with partners from across Scotland.

The household name and global brand has an all-Scottish team dedicated to the Scottish market based in Edinburgh.  The move is part of Expedia, Inc’s plans to build their global network of market managers in core destinations world-wide.

Irene Roberts, market manager for Expedia, said; “As we develop our relationships throughout the UK and seek to expand our coverage of key markets, Edinburgh is the obvious next step.   Edinburgh and Glasgow have always been strong markets for us and the continued success of major events in Scotland including The Open, The Ryder Cup, events at the SECC in Glasgow, the Royal Highland Show, The Edinburgh Festival, rugby fixtures and the likes of the Edinburgh Marathon growing in popularity, we expect to see this grow further.”

More people shop for travel on Expedia, Inc. sites, including the Expedia, Hotels.com and Venere.com brands, than any other online travel company enabling Expedia to deliver unmatched exposure for hotel partners.  Already, Expedia has a strong network of partner hotels not only in the city but right across Scotland from Aberdeen and the Highlands to Glasgow and The Borders.

Irene continued; “Expedia, Inc. has invested heavily in its brands in order to direct customers to its sites and this, together with customer orientated promotions and quality content has resulted in high site numbers.  By bringing additional focus to the market here in Scotland we will be able to enhance the benefits for our existing partners and build broader relationships throughout the industry.  Working with Expedia, Inc. can generate new incremental business for partner hotels, improving production and revenues.”

Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland said; “Tourism is critical to the Scottish economy, employing more than 200,000 people and generating in the region of £11billion annually.  It is a very positive sign that, even in times like this, global brands are still choosing to invest in Scotland.  Expedia’s commitment to Scotland sends a positive message to the industry and underlines the market opportunity that not only Edinburgh has to offer, but the country as a whole. ”

There is no sign up fee to become an Expedia, Inc. partner and Expedia, Inc. sites bring a good balance of domestic and international travellers to Scotland.  As partners, hotels can expect to benefit from global marketing and international reach, with tailor made promotions for both city and country breaks which encourage customer to take advantage of early booking and last minute deals.
