ENGADIN St. Moritz: Skifahren in Pontresina, 1946American travelers love Switzerland’s winter season, as proven by recent overnight statistics. The number of nights Americans spent in Swiss hotels in the winter season of 2014/2015 – from November through April – shows a growth of 6% compared to the same time frame in 2013/2014. Overnights at vacation homes or other kinds of accommodation, and visits with friends and family are not included in this number.

“We are pleased to see that American travelers chose Switzerland as their winter destination – this year even more, since we were celebrating a major anniversary in winter tourism, which started in St. Moritz in the Engadin valley 150 years ago", says Alex Herrmann, Director Americas of Switzerland Tourism. The anniversary also made Switzerland the perfect match for Warren Miller's "No Turning Back". The movie pays homage to 65 years of mountain culture and adventure filmmaking – showing off spectacular scenes shot in Switzerland, the US, France, Greece and Japan with world- class skiers and snowboarders.

The numbers for the past winter support a positive trend that has been developing over the past five years. Since 2010, Switzerland has been able to report an increase in hotel overnights from the U.S. every year, from roughly 1,400,000 to almost 1,650,000.
