Kenya’s Gamewatchers Safaris launched its first daily scheduled charter flight to the Selenkay Conservancy near Amboseli National Park on Saturday. The seat-in-plane charter runs daily from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Selenkay airstrip, where travelers are met and transferred just minutes to Porini Amboseli Camp. The flight runs daily July through October and will resume for the December holiday season.

"This new flight is exclusive to Porini Amboseli Camp’s Selenkay airstrip and allows our visitors to maximize their time in the conservancy, rather than spending time transferring on the highway from Nairobi,” said Jake Grieves-Cook, managing director of the Porini Camps and Gamewatchers Safaris. “This flight significantly increases accessibility to Porini Amboseli Camp, and conveniently ties it to a comprehensive safari in Kenya.”

10 miles north of Amboseli over the northern boundary of Amboseli Park is the Selenkay Conservation area. Selenkay shares the same eco-system as Amboseli and is established on lands leased from the local Maasai by Porini with the aim of protecting the habitation and encouraging wildlife conservation as an alternative to farming as a means for the local population to earn a living. Migrating species from Amboseli previously killed or driven off land set aside for farming are now encouraged to make the conservancy their home. Recent years have witnessed a significant increase in wildlife numbers with elephants returning to make the land their own after a 20 year absence.

Porini Amboseli Camp offers just 9 spacious guest tents and retains the charm of the classic luxury safari camps of bygone days. Tents have solar-powered electric lighting with en suite bathrooms including safari shower, wash basin (with running tap) and flush toilet. The camp provides an exclusive and welcoming atmosphere with a maximum of 18 guests. Activities including day and night game drives, guided walks, Maasai village visits and sundowners are included. Game drives are in specially-designed, open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles with expert safari guides.
