Partnership Encourages next generation of explorers to get outside

Santa Fe, NM OUTSIDE Magazine has joined Avid4 Adventure, an organization that hosts multi-sport adventure camps in California and Colorado, to send over 80 kids, from pre-K to 12th grade, to outdoors summer camps this summer. The camps, located in California’s Bay Area and throughout the Colorado Rockies, run from June 2 to August 22, and give many children their first experience exploring America’s Great Outdoors. With activities such as rock-climbing, hiking, kayaking and mountain biking, Avid4 Adventure aims to empower the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts to push their own boundaries and discover the fun and adventure available in the parks and wilderness around them, regardless of their economic status. Avid4 Adventure Camps are a great way for parents to introduce their kids to outdoor recreation, which is even more critically important as children spend more time in front of electronic screens.

Christine Salem, the Strategic Planning Director at OUTSIDE Magazine, knows that partnering with Avid4 Adventure will help scores of kids have a formative summer adventure: “Outside has partnered with Avid4 Adventure because we believe in growing a new generation of adventure sports enthusiasts. And we believe that ALL kids deserve these opportunities, regardless of their family’s economic situation. It’s rare that we at OUTSIDE find a partner who’s as whole-heartedly dedicated to creating outdoor stewards and increasing active, outdoor lifestyles amongst kids, but that’s certainly what we’ve found in Dave Secunda and Avid4 Adventure.” Secunda, who founded Avid4 Adventure after serving as President of the Outdoor Industry Association, has perhaps done more than anyone to promote outdoor recreation and an active lifestyle for American youth.

In addition to the weekly and bi-weekly summer camps, Avid4 Adventure also offers more intensive backpacking expeditions and a teen leadership program. The organization is American Camp Association Accredited. OUTSIDE Magazine has partnered with Avid4 Adventure, because both organizations believe the outdoors should be available to all kids looking for excitement and a new experience. The partnership helps parents who appreciate outdoor activities themselves, but don’t always have the time, skills, or equipment to teach their kids. Please visit www.avid4.com.
