Myths and Mountains Given Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Award for Literacy Initiative

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nevada – Myths and Mountains, a Nevada based tour operator specializing in authentic, cultural travel to South America and Asia, has been awarded Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Award for “making a difference in the traveler’s world” with their literacy initiative READ Global.

Condé Nast Traveler’s Top Travel Specialist for Nepal and president of Myths and Mountains Dr. Antonia Neubauer had been leading tours in Nepal for 12 years when she realized these impoverished countries needed a sustainable way to build human capital and their local economy. READ builds libraries/community centers in rural communities, in tandem with local for-profit business ventures that sustain them. To date, nearly 50 libraries have been built in Nepal, Bhutan and India. They have had a 100% success rate for maintaining sustainable business.

Myths and Mountains gives travelers the unique opportunity to visit these Asian countries with Dr. Neubauer, learning about the process of building sustainability in remote communities. When adventurers travel with Neubauer, they get access to countries like no other visitor. Guests get to know the locals, partake in community festivals and learn the lay of the land on treks.
