For the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the world's most prominent printed guide Lonely Planet, a special issue, namely the Best in Travel 2013, has been published, recommending Montenegro as one of the top 10 travel destinations in the world.

Best in Travel 2013 highlights the top ten countries, top ten regions and top ten cities to visit in the year ahead. The destinations are selected because they are up and coming, have something special happening next year or simply because there’s a real buzz about the place.

Why go in 2013? Taming a Wild Beauty

"When it comes to tourism, Montenegro is a country on the fast track to tourism superstardom" makes the opening line of the text on Montenegro by Andrea Schulte-Peevers, unfolding the story of our country. “Nature has been as prolific and creative here as Picasso in his prime, producing such iconic draws as the bewitching Bay of Kotor and the buzzy beaches along its Riviera....Fierce mountains loom over velvety valleys, glacial lakes, precipitous canyons and dreamy villages where life unfolds much the way it was throughout history.” The text also highlights investment projects such as Porto Montenegro and Aman Sveti Stefan, attributed by the author to the Government’s openness to foreign investors.

Best in Travel 2013 is compiled by Lonely Planet’s team of in-house experts, authors, guidebook commissioning team and selected members of our travel community.

Lonely Planet also develops a new issue of the guide on Montenegro for the English-speaking areas to be published next year. Previously, Lonely Planet listed Montenegro among top 30 destinations in its Blue List publication in 2008.
