Khwai Tented Camp

African Bush Camps are proud to launch the new Khwai Tented Camp which is now open and welcoming guests from all over the world, in search of exceptional wildlife sightings and an authentic safari experience. Following extensive meetings with the Khwai Community, African Bush Camps have been allocated a semi-permanent site within the community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game reserve. The new exclusive location, is set on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai river, and acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area, offering visitors staying at Khwai Tented Camp several unique ways to experience Africa. The new Khwai Tented Camp, with its captivating sights, sounds and smells, will capture your heart and make you feel like you are a part of the African wilderness. Fall asleep to the chorus of an African lullaby – hundreds of croaking frogs, the splashing of hippos at a midnight buffet, and the urgent call of the lions in that quiet moment just before dawn.

Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – guests at Khwai Tented Camp are now able to explore the lagoon by mokoro safaris direct from the camp. In addition, Khwai Tented Camp guests will be able to discover the area on foot with our professional guides, as well as experiencing the excitement of viewing nature after sunset with night drives. The new Khwai Tented Camp contains 6 meru style tents built on raised decking along the edge of and over looking the lagoon. The camp includes a wooden decked lounge and dining area where guests are able to enjoy their meals and relax at camp during the afternoon and evenings. Furnished with simplicity yet elegance, the main area provides an aura of romance through furnishings symbolic of colonial and tribal eras from Africa. The 6 Meru style tents are positioned on wooden decking along the edge of the lagoon and include en-suite bathroom facilities with flush toilets and al fresco bucket showers. Solar lighting is used throughout the camp in an effort to minimise the impact on our surroundings.

In addition, in our continued efforts to promote family travel to Africa, the new Khwai Tented Camp now hosts a quaint family stone cottage set to the side of the camp. Families with young children are able to explore the Khwai area, learning about the wildlife and culture, whilst enjoying a private and exclusive african safari setting.
