In The Saddle’s Chris Day has recently completed a gruelling 80km trek across the central Pyrenees into Northern Spain, in aid of the Association for International Cancer Research.

Chris and her fellow trekkers walked for six days, laden with their own tents and equipment, climbing up to 2600m.  The route is one of the hardest high level wartime escape routes across the central Pyrenees and is called The Freedom Trail.  The terrain was varied, but Chris was determined to complete the challenge.

“I had always intended to raise money for the Association for International Cancer Research,” says Chris, “and since suggesting the trek, my friend Sarah had to drop out after being diagnosed with breast cancer.  This made the challenge more personal and the cause more poignant.”

So far, Chris has raised £615 through her JustGiving page, which can be found on www.justgiving.com/Chris-Day2011.

“We’ve seen how hard Chris trained for this challenge,” says Olwen Law, Managing Director of In The Saddle, “and we knew she could complete it.  All the team are delighted that Chris achieved her goal, and raised money for such a great cause.”

Chris’s JustGiving page is still open and receiving donations.  See www.justgiving.com/Chris-Day2011.
