Wilpena Pound Resort completes its collection of luxe safari-style accommodations in the heart of the majestic Flinders Ranges

Flinders Ranges, SOUTH AUSTRALIAIkara Safari Camp, Wilpena Pound Resort’s new luxury tent accommodations, is available to book in the Flinders Ranges—an iconic Outback region of South Australia. Fifteen safari-style suites are tucked away in the majestic, ancient landscape and offer guests a unique “glampsite” in an exclusive area of the Flinders Ranges National Park.

Secluded from Wilpena Pound Resort’s main accommodations, Ikara Safari Camp is set among river red gums, native pines and abundant wildlife. Each tent is approximately 14 feet by 20 feet in size, constructed from insulated canvas, and offers king beds with luxurious linen and bedding, bedside tables and lamps, a gas fire heater and overhead fan, and en-suite bathrooms including a vanity and shower.

A deck at the front of the tents allows guests to witness the mesmerizing sunsets on the spectacular rock formations of the Flinders Ranges, while enjoying a glass of fine South Australian wine. A separate dining area, located in a tranquil section of Wilpena Pound Resort, caters to Ikara guests exclusively.

The opening of Ikara Safari Camp is perfectly timed as the weather in the Outback begins to shift from its high summer temperatures, to a cooler and more comfortable climate. The ideal time for travelers visiting the Flinders Ranges is between May and October.

Ikara Safari Camp is located within the Flinders Ranges National Park, one of the oldest landscapes on earth, and is found approximately 275 miles north of South Australia’s capital city of Adelaide. Visitors can access the resort within 5 hours’ drive, or regular air services and private charters operate to nearby Port Augusta.

Dramatic red-rock formations offer hiking trails and mountain biking paths, with an abundance of wildlife to discover. A rustle in the bushes may reveal a Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby sighting, Red Kangaroo with its joey, or an emu leading its chicks to the creek bed. Nearly 100 species of birds, including wedge-tailed eagles, can be spotted on the knife-edge ridge tops of cypress pine country or perched on the branches of red gum trees.

Other activities include scenic flights over the majestic Wilpena Pound rock formation, sunrise hot air balloon rides, guided hikes and walking expeditions, as well as 4WD tours throughout the rugged gorges in the National Park.

The Flinders Ranges is an extraordinary destination and a natural environment unique to the world, and the new luxury tent accommodation offers a unique way to take in the region. Wilpena Pound Resort is located amid incredible geological history, rare and iconic wildlife, offers access to the most majestic spots of the land and showcases the authentic sights and sounds of the Australian Outback.
