Los Angeles, CAGreen Living Project™ (GLP), the leading production and marketing company showcasing global sustainability-related initiatives, has announced their 3rd annual “New York City Premiere” on July 28th at Brooklyn Lyceum. This event will premiere new documentary films from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and New Mexico that highlight issues such as sustainable tourism, sustainable agriculture, wildlife conservation, education, and community development. The purpose of the event is to celebrate these important issues, while also educating and inspiring attendees and travel industry partners on the importance and benefits of sustainability principles through cutting-edge documentary films from around the world.

The new films to be premiered were all produced within the last ten months. First, Green Living Project produced a diverse mix of six unique sustainable tourism films across Mexico (states included Oaxaca, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Yucatan). These films help exemplify Mexico’s commitment to sustainable tourism, which will also be showcased at the Adventure Travel World Summit in Chiapas, Mexico (October 17-20, 2011). Second, they produced five films across Guatemala and Belize covering topics such as sustainable agriculture and forestry, local Mayan culture, climate change, wildlife conservation, and community education. Lastly, they produced a film on New Mexico’s Ecotourism Program, the first statewide initiative across the US, that is helping transform the town and surrounding areas of Taos into an innovative ecotourism destination.

Green Living Project’s Premiere Events are popular multi-media events that are open to the public and attract a wide audience of attendees, organizations, and companies nationwide. Each event showcases short documentaries highlighting relevant and important sustainability-related issues such as tourism, wildlife, education, community development, sustainable food and agriculture, climate change, and renewable energy. They also profile exciting new sustainable tourism destinations across North America, Central/South America, and Africa. Each event shows how citizens, communities, and organizations can get directly involved with important local and global sustainability-related initiatives to bring about constructive and positive change.

"To feature these six sustainable tourism films, produced by Green Living Project, is an excellent opportunity to show the other side of Mexico,” said Alfonso Sumano, Regional Director of the Americas, Mexico Tourism Board. “The event attendees will learn first-hand how Mexican communities are making a living from tourism, while also taking care of the environment. We are proud to show that Mexico is one of the most diverse countries on earth, and we invite visitors to join us in our commitment to preserving our natural heritage by supporting sustainable tourism."

“Filming in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and U.S. (New Mexico) were amazing experiences for our entire production team,” said Rob Holmes, Founder and President of Green Living Project™. “The natural beauty, rich history, diverse mix of cultures, exciting outdoor adventures, and local hospitality in each country really make each of them unique travel destinations and also help us produce important stories. Plus, we really enjoyed working with all the local organizations to make each film since they are all vibrant groups that are extremely passionate about the work they do on a daily basis. Lastly, our 3rd annual “NYC Premiere” will be exciting for us to showcase our global storytelling work and contrast it with important domestic sustainability-related efforts.”

The “NYC Premiere” will also screen winning student films from Green Living Project’s first “Student Film Project” competition. This unique tri-annual contest encourages students to get involved with filmmaking and storytelling around sustainability-related stories in their own communities. Sponsors include Frontier Airlines, Foto Care New York, Kata, Patagonia, Chipotle and Whole Foods. “We are very excited about the broad and global potential for this student-based film competition,” said Rob Holmes. “The strong support and enthusiasm for the competition by teachers, students, and their communities show we have created something of value and importance. This is what’s most meaningful for us – to educate the next generation, while increasing awareness and creating change around important local/global issues. After this NYC competition, we are excited for the next film competitions in fall 2010 and spring 2011.”
