Adventure travel leader expands global marketing team

Following a two-year search, G Adventures announces the appointment of Alon Marcovici to the position of vice president, global marketing. Marcovici joins the company with more than 18 years of sales and marketing communication experience and most recently served as vice president of consumer sales and marketing at The Globe and Mail, one of Canada’s national daily newspapers.

“As a passionate traveller myself, I’m excited to join the world-class team at G Adventures. Not only are they leaders in travel, but the company’s relentless pursuit of changing people’s lives places it among the world’s most admirable organizations, from any industry,” shares Marcovici.

Marcovici will be responsible for managing the company’s global marketing team dedicated to building a strong brand position and delivering growth objectives, and results-driven offline and online marketing.

He previously served as VP of digital media and research at Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, where he earned a Gemini Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in Digital Media, and was named Digital Media Executive of the Year at the Canadian New Media Awards, also receiving the award for Best Cross-Platform Project.

Marcovici also held senior positions at CTVglobemedia, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and the Toronto Board of Trade, with previous experience at NBC Olympics and the National Basketball Association.

G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip recalls giving up after reviewing applications from more than 1,100 candidates in the past 24 months, but says he had his eye on Marcovici since meeting him three years ago.

“It's a big deal for us and I think it's quite exciting for the travel industry that someone of that caliber is coming into the industry. There's no other candidate like him in the country.

“G Adventures has become a global company and with that comes multi-national problems. We needed a candidate with the international marketing experience who could facilitate a global transformation and make G a truly international company,” adds Poon Tip.
