Cheryl Myers Snaps Up First Place in In The Saddle’s 2010 Photo Competition

In The Saddle is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2010 Photo Competition is Cheryl Myers for her stunning image which captured locals playing Ulak Tartysh in Kyrgyzstan.

The company received 100s of entries and, with the help of Into The Lens equestrian photographer Simon Palmer, chose Cheryl’s image.

“Black and white images evoke so much atmosphere for the viewer” says Simon. “This picture really shows what the experience is about when traveling to the far reaches of the world by horseback. You can see, and experience, true cultural diversity, along with traditions that have been left undisturbed for hundreds of years. When I saw this picture I felt that I was eavesdropping on the lives of another culture, almost felt like turning a page in the National Geographic magazine. True quality!”

In addition to the winning image, Simon selected five runners up.  These were Leah Wiltshire, Lene Bech Hilsberg, Kate Potter, Andrrea Szilagyi and Moira Hart.

The prize for the winner was a Canon EOS 1000D SLR Camera, but Cheryl asked to receive her prize in hoofmiles instead, a programme that In The Saddle uses to help regular clients receive discounts from future holidays.  Cheryl’s hoofmiles add up to a £500 discount.  The five runners up received their image on canvas.

“We were delighted by the response from this competition,” says Olwen Law, Managing Director for In The Saddle, “and it was great to see so many high quality images.  We have put a selection of images on our website, these include the winner, runners up, highly commended and the best of the rest.”
