Social Media Round-up: TripAdvisor Gets Personal, Cool New Campaigns, Google+ for Businesses

Hot news this month included TripAdvisor’s new personalization feature which displays reviews and activity from Facebook from your Facebook friends: When people research hotels, attractions or other vacation information on the site, they will see reviews first from their friends, followed by reviews from friends of friends. Visitors have the option to send the the reviewer a private message with further travel questions. TripAdvisor says this friends of friends feature means visitors are now 10 times more likely to see social context when they use the travel site. How a Tourism Board Made its Visitor Centre Look and Feel Like an Apple Store

The British city of Manchester has gained media attention for its new visitor centre, which boasts state-of-the-art, interactive technology for people to explore the city through and plan their stay, retail items and what a recent Tnooz article dubs Apple-like interior design. The new center was designed with user-experience in mind and offers a large Mediawall, desktop computers, Twitter feeds and Microsoft Surface tables for visitors to use to research and book activities and services the city provides. Digital Content Top Priority for Travel Companies

Frommer’s Unlimited releases 2011 Digital Marketing and Content B2B Survey London/Hoboken -  Social media, content, mobile and apps, and natural search engine optimisation will be the top four areas for travel organizations with 83% planning to increase overall digital marketing spend in 2012, according to a new global survey released today by digital travel online content specialists Frommer’s® Unlimited, the business-to-business division of Frommer’s®, a branded imprint of Wiley.
