Seattle, U.S.A.Cascade Designs, Inc., the Seattle-based industry leader in the design and manufacture of premier outdoor equipment, today proudly announced its inclusion in the ABC World News “Made in America” series hosted by Diane Sawyer. The ABC News series focuses on the scarcity of American-made goods in peoples’ everyday lives and showcases products that are still being made in America today, reporting that if one percent more were spent on American-made items, 200,000 jobs would be instantly created.

Founded in 1972, Cascade Designs has grown to become the parent company of some of the most respected brands in the outdoor industry—Therm-a-Rest®, MSR® (Mountain Safety Research), SealLine®, Platypus®, Tracks®, PackTowl®, and the newly launched Hummingbird line. The company designs and manufactures the majority of its gear in the United States with a focus on innovative, long-lasting, useful equipment for the outdoors and outstanding customer service. The ABC News “Made in America” series segment filmed the making of Cascade Designs’ Therm-a-Rest mattresses and MSR snowshoes at the company’s manufacturing headquarters in Seattle, Washington, while interviewing Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Product Tester John Burroughs. ABC World News’ David Muir selected a Cascade Designs’ SealLine E-Case™ as his “one thing” made in America from the Seattle series, demonstrating its waterproof protection on-air by submerging the case in a bowl of water with his iPhone® inside.

“It’s always been my philosophy that you want to make products near where you’re selling it because you can provide much better customer service that way,” said Burroughs. “But being close to the manufacturing line also helps our designers build a better product and retain control over the quality of what we sell. Manufacturing in the U.S. is a long-term investment but we have found it to be a key factor in our success over the last 40 years.”

Inside Cascade Designs lives a museum of the company’s product evolution, including some of the first Therm-a-Rest mattresses and the first MSR stove and snowshoe prototypes. The company designs and manufactures a variety of outdoor products including; mattresses and sleep systems; camp seats, chairs and pillows; tents and wings; camping stoves and cookware; water bottles, treatment and storage; snowshoes; protective cases for electronics; waterproof commuter bags; hydration backpacks; waterproof backpacks; duffles and bags; sea kayak gear protection; and adventure travel luggage.
