(SEATTLE) December 7, 2016 — Salta, Argentina, will serve as host of the 2017 Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS), scheduled for October 16-19, 2017. The Summit is the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s (ATTA) premiere annual gathering of the global adventure tourism industry for inspiration and education as well as networking and showcasing new adventure products and destinations. Salta, Argentina has been selected due to the country’s diverse adventure opportunities: the deserts of the Puna; the verdant jungles of Iguazú; the multicolored mountains of Salta; Patagonia and the Andes; the wine routes; and the rich culture and folklore found throughout the country.

“With the ATWS, Salta will be able to show to the world an incredible variety of landscapes, the gaucho influence, the ancient culture of its nine ethnic groups, the places declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and its rich gastronomy, always accompanied by its wines, which are some of the highest quality in the world,” said Fernando Escudero, who was a key force at Salta’s Ministry of Tourism in bringing the Summit to Argentina.

“For years now Salta, Argentina has been attending Summits and been focused on being present in front of the adventure travel community,” said ATTA President, Mr. Shannon Stowell. “As a whole Argentina represents a diverse culture and environment, and recently, its government has become dedicated to bringing adventure to the forefront of its tourism strategy.”

The ATTA released today the educational theme of the Summit: Unite. Protect. Lead. The ATTA will select speakers and topics that exemplify the theme’s spirit, which was inspired by the gauchos of Salta. With their independent spirit, the gauchos united a community with shared values and protected a country they cared for, one renowned for some of the world’s highest biodiversity. Inspirational keynote presentations along with breakout concurrent sessions and roundtable discussions compose the educational opportunities at the Summit.
